Morocco Tax Authorities Crack Down on Suspicious Company Divestitures

The proliferation of dubious company divestitures is raising the suspicions of the central control services of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI).
Based on the reports from the investigation service, data processing and monitoring of digital activities within the department, the central control services of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) have launched an in-depth audit operation concerning the proliferation of divestitures of dubious companies with no real commercial, industrial or service activity on the ground, and which are used to facilitate the obtaining of bank loans, the acquisition of visas and the manipulation of import and export operations. According to these reports, the "company traffickers" are behind the rise in legal disputes between new buyers and the tax, customs, banking and other creditor authorities.
Accountants are involved in making connections for the sale of companies, in exchange for commissions of up to 30,000 dirhams. They have managed to convince clients who consulted them on the procedures for deregistering their companies after the cessation of their activities and their inability to honor their financial commitments to private creditors and public institutions, at the forefront of which is the tax administration and the General Treasury of the kingdom, the same reports specify.
