Morocco’s Tanger Med Port Achieves World’s Highest Connectivity Growth, UN Study Finds

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has welcomed the progress made by the Port of Tanger Med, which has "recorded the largest absolute increase in connectivity index in the world" over an entire decade.
"Tanger Med has recorded the largest absolute increase in its connectivity index in the world during the first decade of operation since 2007". This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
This feat of the Port of Tanger Med is the result of the reforms undertaken in recent years. To this end, UNCTAD recalled that the expansion of this port, through an investment of 3.5 billion euros, has tripled the total handling capacity of its container terminals, allowing it to reach 9 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) compared to three million previously.
The same study also reveals that the Port of Tanger Med in Morocco and the Port of Port Said in Egypt are the leading African ports in the Mediterranean region, as these two ports offer huge transshipment services due to their geographical locations and private investments from global port operators.
