Morocco's Talent Crunch: Skills Shortage Threatens Business Growth

Moroccan companies are facing a lack of qualified personnel, particularly in key sectors.

According to the newspaper L’Economiste, the shortage of skills and competition around the same profiles are the biggest threats facing companies for the next 5 years. According to the latest survey by the IBB Management firm, these threats are more important than the informal economy, cash flow difficulties and economic uncertainty.

Concern is rising in the ranks of companies. 86% of them even fear delays or cancellations of projects due to the difficulty in recruiting, the same source supports, and further states that the biggest battle to be fought in the future by these companies is that of human capital.

The sectors most affected by this shortage are IT and construction/real estate. Over the period 2010-2015, some 5,000 positions remained unfilled each year due to lack of skills, with annual losses of around 1 billion DH, according to the Federation of Information Technology, Communication and Offshoring (APEBI).

The other fear of companies operating in these sectors is that 100% of their projects are at risk of being delayed, postponed or even cancelled due to lack of skills.
