Morocco Tackles Aging Vehicle Fleet with Transport Sector Overhaul

Until December, the services of the Ministry of Transport processed some 900 requests for vehicle renewal.
Taking stock before the deputies on the renewal of the vehicle fleet, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, indicated that on the situation of road transport in the Kingdom, his department has adopted several programs and implemented a set of legal provisions, in order to increase the attractiveness of investments in the sector.
To this end, he stressed, the services of the ministry have dealt with the fleet of dilapidated vehicles in road transport, by granting beneficiaries premiums, intended for the renewal or scrapping of vehicles over 20 years old.
Similarly, the department has proceeded, in response to a request from professionals in the sector, to extend this program to vehicles over 15 years and under 20 years, as well as to increase the value of the premiums and extend the program until 2023.
For more flexibility and efficiency, the program has been entrusted, according to the minister, to the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), which has processed around 900 files with an estimated envelope of 140 million dirhams (MDH), until December 2021, the minister said.
