Morocco Suspends Wheat Import Duties to Stabilize Domestic Prices

Morocco has suspended its import duties on soft wheat and its derivatives for the period from January 2 to April 30, 2020.
Through Decree No. 2.19.1065, the Government Council, chaired by [Saâdeddine El Othmani], has now eliminated customs duties on soft wheat in order to ensure regular supply and stable prices on the domestic market.
According to the government spokesman, this text, presented by the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, aims to ensure normal import of the domestic market with reasonable prices.
This decision comes at a time when FOB prices for soft wheat are rising between $12 and $15. As for this increase, it is justified in particular by the surge in prices of this commodity on the international market since the beginning of October last and the amount of the import duty set at 35% currently, it is indicated.
