Morocco Suspends Repatriation Flights as Omicron Variant Spreads

The Moroccan authorities have announced the suspension of special flights to repatriate Moroccans stranded abroad from December 23, following the appearance of the first case of the new Omicron variant in Morocco.
According to the Interministerial Committee for Monitoring Covid-19, this decision has become essential to respond to "the lightning spread of the Omicron variant worldwide and its worrying progression in the European neighborhood of Morocco".
To this effect, no more passenger flights to the kingdom will be authorized from December 23, even the special flights organized for Moroccans.
"From this date, passenger flights to the Kingdom will be banned again," the committee’s statement said, adding that the Moroccan authorities strongly recommend that those concerned by this measure and who wish to return to the Kingdom, take the necessary arrangements for their return, before this date.
"The Moroccan authorities will continue to place the preservation of the physical integrity and health of Moroccans above any other consideration," the note concluded.
