Morocco Suspends International Flights Amid Vaccination Concerns and Global COVID Surge

The suspension of air and maritime links decided by the Moroccans would be motivated by the slowdown observed in the vaccination campaign.
The information was given by Hicham Afif, member of the Moroccan inter-ministerial committee for monitoring the pandemic, reports Balarmane.
In an interview, the specialist said that "the decision to suspend all direct flights for travelers to the Kingdom of Morocco, for a period of two weeks, was dictated by the global epidemiological conditions that could weigh on the health security of the States."
For him, "Moroccans have weakly flocked to vaccination centers in recent days, which forces the State to take these difficult decisions to preserve the public health of citizens." The slowdown in the Covid-19 vaccination campaign is starting to raise concerns within the government, which wants to reach the objectives it has set, but which may not be enough to prevent a new epidemic wave.
Faced with this situation, the health authorities have multiplied initiatives to encourage the undecided and the reluctant to get vaccinated. Currently, "Morocco has a strategic stock of vaccines of about 13 million doses," said the expert, calling on unvaccinated people to go to vaccination centers to accelerate the achievement of collective immunity before the outbreak of the new wave.
