The Moroccan government has adopted a draft decree on the abolition of customs duties on the purchase of domestic cattle weighing at least 550 kg.
This measure comes into force as soon as it is adopted and until December 31, 2023. Its objective is to ensure domestic supply of red meat, due to the drought that has had many consequences in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Morocco is one of the largest consumers of beef per capita in Africa with nearly 17 kg per year according to the FAO.
