Morocco Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Tourism Levels, Outpacing Global Recovery

In 2024, Moroccan tourism recorded good performance. Morocco not only exceeded its pre-Covid-19 level, but also outperformed its direct regional competitors, such as Tunisia and Egypt.
According to the 2024 World Tourism Barometer, recently published by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Morocco stands out clearly as one of the global leaders in tourism recovery. Last year, the kingdom posted results exceeding its pre-health crisis performance. It welcomed 17.4 million visitors in 2024, an increase of 35% in its tourist arrivals. Globally, the recovery of tourism activity is around 99% compared to the reference year 2019 (1.445 billion arrivals compared to 1.465 billion).
Thanks to these performances, Morocco has progressed in the various rankings. The kingdom ranks 8th in the world among the most visited countries, and 4th among those with significant tourist arrivals, just behind countries like Albania, Saudi Arabia and Colombia. Morocco has also outperformed Egypt (+23%). The kingdom has also outperformed Tunisia (+9%), its other regional competitor. Morocco has also done much better than the African average, which is +7% compared to 2019, it is specified.
Despite this improvement, several challenges remain, including the diversification of the offer and the congestion of airports, issues to be managed to maintain the growth momentum in the coming years.
