Morocco Surpasses Goal, Plants Over 3 Million Date Palms in Agricultural Initiative

Nearly ten years after the launch by King Mohammed VI of the program to plant 3 million date palm trees by 2020, where are we today?
Nearly 10 years later, the impression is one of exceeding this objective ahead of schedule, judging by the results of the working visit made on Friday, May 31, 2019 by the Minister of Agriculture, Aziz Akhannouch, to Errachidia.
In addition to having planted more than 3 million date palm seedlings by the end of the current year, there are the support of scientific research on this crop, the development of irrigation of the plantations concerned, the implementation of a system for promoting Moroccan dates, the development of the cultivable area suitable for production, and finally the establishment of criteria for determining the quality of the Moroccan date palm label.
These are the six fundamental points of the achievements made within the date palm sector, which the Minister of Agriculture, Aziz Akhannouch, identified, following his working meeting in Errachidia. Thus, it is certain that about ten years after the relaunch of the sector concerned by King Mohammed VI, the vision developed by the supreme authority has resulted in exceeding the set threshold.
To achieve this result, several actions were necessary: among others, the development of working conditions in the plantations, which made it possible for the workers to operate for more days than in the past. Morocco’s ambition in this field does not stop at this level, as the country will likely put in place a new plan from 2020.
