Morocco Surpasses France in Global Melon Exports, UN Data Shows

The analysis of global melon exports in 2024, based on United Nations COMTRADE data, confirms the rise of Guatemala, which has become the leading exporter by volume ahead of Spain. But the figures also show that Morocco exported more than France, both in quantity and value.
In detail, Morocco shipped 43.1 million kilos of melons last year. These sales brought in 60.92 million euros, positioning the country in ninth place worldwide among exporters in terms of revenue. France ranks just behind, in tenth place, with 49.82 million euros in revenue. Its export volume, not ranked in the top eleven, is therefore lower than that of Morocco.
This situation does not mean a lower valuation of the French product. On the contrary, the average price per kilo of melon exported by France is one of the highest in the world, reaching 1.53 euros, placing it second globally. Morocco is not far behind, with an average price of 1.41 euros per kilo (third place worldwide). Both countries thus far exceed the global average (0.80 euros) and the Spanish price (0.92 euros).
