Morocco Summer Vacations Cost Less Than Competitors

Fatim-Zahra Ammor assures that the Moroccan destination remains highly competitive this summer. Facing parliamentarians, the Tourism Minister unveiled a pricing study, attributing price surges to a critical lack of infrastructure.

According to a government assessment covering the summer season beginning in July, staying on national territory proves more affordable than other destinations favored by vacationers. At the House of Councillors on Tuesday, the official defended these figures: a standard night costs 500 dirhams in Morocco, compared to 750 dirhams abroad.

This difference is also observed in the high-end segment. A four-star room costs 1,000 dirhams versus 1,500 dirhams required elsewhere, while the average five-star reaches 2,100 dirhams, far from the 3,100 dirhams demanded by competitors.

The price surge is explained by basic commercial logic, governed by the law on price freedom and competition. "The obstacle does not lie in the rates, but in the weakness of hotel supply," the minister concluded facing the peak of summer demand. To correct this imbalance, her department relies on a new roadmap.

The strategy aims to increase accommodation capacity and diversify activities across all regions throughout the year, in order to trigger a mechanical drop in costs.
