Morocco Subsidizes Water and Electricity Bills for 75% of Population, Minister Says

The Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment, Aziz Rebbah, said on Tuesday that the water and electricity bills of 75% of Moroccans, in the range of the first and second consumption brackets, are covered by the state.
"The bills of 75% of Moroccans have not changed, as the government and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) are paying for them," said Minister Rebbah, responding to an oral question on the "criteria for calculating water and electricity consumption rates," asked by the constitutional, democratic and social group in the House of Advisors.
During the confinement period, consumption was billed based on previous bills, the minister points out, indicating that the state is currently working to regularize the payment of 11 million bills.
The minister also assured that complaints about bills are handled with the utmost diligence, before informing that the ministry is currently looking for a distribution company to entrust this service to. In this sense, the revision of the specifications of the water and electricity production and distribution sector is currently underway.
