UK-Morocco Submarine Power Cable Project Advances with Cutting-Edge Ship Design

The British company Xlinks, specialized in renewable energies, is making considerable efforts to build the 3,800 km submarine cable that will connect Morocco to the United Kingdom. The design of the cable-laying ship has recently been completed.
The Xlinks project is progressing well. The design of the cable-laying ship to be used for the laying, lifting and maintenance of the submarine cables for the future transport of electricity between Morocco and the United Kingdom has recently been completed, reports Renews.biz. "Our ship will, upon delivery, be the most sophisticated, high-performing and environmentally friendly cable-laying vessel in the world [...] Thanks to this capability, we will be able to meet the growing global demand for HVDC (high-voltage direct current) cable deployment and fill a current and future gap in the market," said Alan Mathers, CEO of the British cable manufacturer XLCC.
According to XLCC, its team in collaboration with Salt Ship Design has started the development of the basic design of the vessel while working on the selection of a suitable shipyard for its construction. The tender procedure has already been launched. The selected shipyard is expected to be announced by the end of the second quarter of 2022. "We are delighted to be involved in this exciting project, which will enable the delivery of more renewable energy to the world. The design is in an advanced stage and we are continuing the project development to refine the details," assures Tor Henning Vestbøstad, Commercial Director of Salt Ship Design.
