Morocco Struggles to Contain COVID-19 Clusters in Industrial Sites and Families

Morocco continues to record daily cases of covid-19 contamination. Industrial and family clusters remain a difficult equation to solve.
Although Morocco has recorded a record number of recoveries (35.2%), the number of new covid-19 infections continues to skyrocket in certain regions of the country. According to the Director of Epidemiology, Mohamed El Youbi, the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Casablanca-Settat regions are the most affected.
On Tuesday, the authorities discovered an industrial cluster in Ain Sebaâ, as well as family clusters in neighborhoods of Salé. They are working to contain these clusters. In this regard, they have taken certain measures to curb the spread of covid-19. A difficult task, in the sense that many citizens do not respect the containment measures.
As of May 6, the report shows 5,408 confirmed cases, 2,017 recoveries and 183 deaths. The new cases were detected after testing of contact persons.
The geographical distribution in percentage terms is as follows: Casa-Settat (25.94%), Marrakech-Safi (20.75%), Tanger-Tétouan-El Hoceima (14.07%), Fès-Meknès (12.86%), Draâ-Tafilalet (10.48%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (9.07%), Oriental (3.33%), Béni-Mellal-Khénifra (1.65%), Souss-Massa (0.99%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (0.74%), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (0.08%) and Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab (0.04%).
