Morocco-Spain Tunnel Project Advances: Ministers Meet in Madrid to Discuss Gibraltar Strait Link

The tunnel that is to connect Morocco to Spain via the Strait of Gibraltar was at the center of discussions between the Moroccan Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, who met in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sanchez Jimenez.
During this meeting, the two officials emphasized the progress of the project for a fixed link across the Strait of Gibraltar, a project that symbolizes a bridge between Europe and Africa, it is reported. The reactivation of the joint committee and the signing of the bilateral cooperation agreement marked a key step in this project described as ambitious.
The two parties also took the opportunity to assess the progress of the roadmap drawn up during the last session of the joint committee, also discussing the next steps to be taken.
This strategic project of a fixed link between Morocco and Spain is part of the new roadmap adopted in April 2022, during the visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI. The meeting between the two ministers took place in the presence of the Moroccan Ambassador to Spain, Ms. Karima Benyaich.
