Morocco-Spain Talks May End Duty-Free Shopping for Ceuta Tourists

The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Ceuta (CECE) has provided clarifications on certain modalities relating to the introduction into Morocco of products purchased by tourists in the autonomous city.
As long as the products purchased by tourists visiting Ceuta are for personal or family use, they were not subject to customs duties. But negotiations are underway between Morocco and Spain to review this exception to the customs regime. Thus, the transport of any product for commercial or personal use, regardless of its value, will no longer be authorized, reports Ceuta Ahora.

"This situation is unsustainable, as neither Moroccan tourists can make purchases in Ceuta, nor can the companies in the city benefit from the reopening of the border," deplored the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Ceuta (CECE), calling for the situation to be regularized "with the establishment of a regime for passengers at the European level and, of course, with the imminent installation by Morocco of the commercial customs service..."
