Thus, representatives of Moroccan companies are already inquiring about prices, availability and logistical conditions necessary to launch the operation. These initiatives are seen as a sign of impatience among major industry players.

Price surge accelerates preparations

The pressure comes mainly from the domestic market. Wholesale prices for sheep meat are said to have reached levels close to 150 dirhams, a threshold that weighs heavily on consumers and reinforces the idea of resorting to imports.

For several industry professionals, the government could hardly dismiss this option. The national livestock has been weakened, particularly after Eid al-Adha, while demand remains strong and prices are slow to return to more sustainable levels.

Reopening imports would also help secure market supply in the coming months. It could finally serve to prepare earlier for the next Eid, in order to avoid further pressure on prices and sheep availability.
