Moroccan Consumers Protest Soaring Red Meat Prices Amid Feed Cost Surge

In Morocco, red meat prices continue to rise, reaching 120 dirhams per kilogram in some retail outlets.
Moroccans have been facing a continuous rise in red meat prices for a few weeks now. This increase is justified, according to the butchers, by the rise in animal feed prices on world markets. Overwhelmed by this inflation that is severely affecting their purchasing power, Moroccans have called on the authorities through social networks to urgently find a solution to this problem.
The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Saddiki, met on Tuesday in Rabat with professionals in the red meat and milk sectors to study ways and means to strengthen food security in this context of severe drought. The two parties agreed to maintain the subsidy for animal feed and to promote their import in order to relieve sheep and cattle breeders.
