Morocco Spain MRE Return Operation Marhaba Summer 2024
The Moroccan-Spanish joint commission met in Tangier to prepare the new edition of Operation Marhaba. The two countries are deploying significant logistical and security resources to facilitate the summer return of Moroccans residing abroad.
Preparations are accelerating on both sides of the Mediterranean. Under the leadership of Khalid Zerouali, director of Migration and Border Surveillance, and Virginia Barcones Sanz, his Spanish counterpart at Civil Protection, the two countries validated on Wednesday a massive transit plan. On the Moroccan side, an investment of several million dirhams has made it possible to modernize port and airport infrastructure. The mobilized fleet guarantees a colossal daily capacity for passengers and vehicles, while consulates in Spain will remain open every day, including weekends and public holidays.

Spain is also strengthening its reception by increasing its processing capacity in ports. Madrid plans to mobilize security agents and port police, complemented by the arrangement of rest areas and coordination centers. Following the meeting, Virginia Barcones Sanz praised the particular attention paid by King Mohammed VI to this system, where the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity plays a central role. She emphasized that this meticulous organization responded both to the "strategic scope of this large-scale operation" and to its "deeply human dimension".
