Morocco-Spain High-Level Summit Likely Delayed to 2024 Due to Leaders’ Schedules

Scheduled to be held before the end of this year, in accordance with the joint declaration of April 7, the high-level meeting between Spain and Morocco is likely to be postponed to next year. The very busy schedules of Mohammed VI and Pedro Sanchez are to blame.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said, on the sidelines of his participation in the 9th UN Alliance of Civilizations Global Forum held on November 22-23 in Fez, that the holding of the high-level meeting depended on the schedules of Mohammed VI and Sanchez. Albares also stressed the "complexity" of organizing this meeting, which has not taken place "for seven years."
"Many ministers from both sides need to meet at a time when the international agendas of Mohammed VI and the President of the Government (Spanish, ed.) are particularly busy due to international events," the Spanish minister specified, adding that the two parties "are looking to set a suitable date to bring together all the parties concerned."
For his part, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita had announced the holding of this meeting for early 2023. This meeting would be an "important moment" in the new stage of relations between Morocco and Spain, he had indicated on October 18, during the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a green partnership with the European Union.
