Morocco-Spain Hashish Trade: Billions in Profits as Prices Soar Across Borders

The hashish trade between Morocco and Spain generates billions of euros per year. The price of a kilo in Morocco doubles or even triples once it reaches Spain.
According to Canal Sur, 80% of the hashish consumed in Europe comes from Morocco via the Spanish coasts. Once in Europe, the drug is sold at double or even triple the price. Thus, a kilo of hashish can cost up to 2,000 euros on the other side of the Strait, while its price does not exceed 700 euros in Morocco, explains the Spanish media. Similarly, 3,500 kilos of hashish have a market value of 6.6 million euros.
Small quantities of hashish also cost more in other European countries compared to Spain. If a gram is sold in Spain at an average of 6.36 euros, it is sold at 23 euros in Norway, for example. In summary, the traffic is controlled by Moroccan networks from Morocco, but the distribution of the drug is carried out by Spaniards.
Since 2018, Spain has been the European country that has seized the largest quantity of hashish. In total that year, 437 tons were seized, 30% more than the previous year. The drug arrives from Morocco on the Andalusian coasts, particularly Cadiz, Malaga and Huelva.
