Morocco’s Soccer Team Hit by COVID Cases Ahead of Africa Cup of Nations Opener

As they will start the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2022) tomorrow, January 10, against the Black Stars of Ghana, three Atlas Lions have been diagnosed positive for Covid-19.
At a press conference this Sunday, January 9, the coach of the Atlas Lions, Vahid Halilhodzic, confirmed that players have tested positive for Covid-19 without however mentioning their names. These would be the forwards Ayoub El Kaabi, Ryan Mmaee and Munir El Haddadi. They were all absent from the last training session. Morocco is not an isolated case. Positive cases have also been reported among the teams of Senegal, Burkina Faso and Gabon.
The kick-off of the 33rd edition of CAN 2022 will be given this Sunday evening at the Olembe stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Classified in group C, the Atlas Lions will start the competition tomorrow, Monday, January 10, against the Black Stars of Ghana, before crossing swords with the Coelacanths of the Comoros on the 14th, then the Panthers of Gabon on January 18.
