Morocco’s Smuggled Cigarette Market Share Rises to 1.91% in 2021, Customs Reports

In 2021, the penetration rate of smuggled cigarettes on the Moroccan market reached 1.91%, up from 2020, according to a press release from the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).
This rate was 1.37% in 2020 and 5.23% in 2019, according to the National Commission for the Fight against Cigarette Smuggling, during a working meeting. This meeting, held at the ADII headquarters, is part of the presentation of the results of the 8th study on the prevalence of smuggled cigarettes for the year 2021, it is indicated in a press release, specifying that the joint strategy to be put in place to fight against this penetration and its impacts on the consumer’s health and on the national economy, was also discussed.
It should be noted that in addition to the representatives of the ADII, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the General Directorate of National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie and economic operators were also present.
