Morocco’s Slum Reduction Program Relocates 288,000 Households in 15 Years

59 cities have been declared slum-free since the launch 15 years ago of the national "Cities without Slums" program. This was just announced by the Minister of National Land Use Planning, who added that until the end of last September, 288,419 households have benefited from it.
In response to questions from parliamentarians this week, Nouzha Bouchareb reported numerous obstacles and imbalances, including the refusal of some families to join this program, which has targeted 85 cities but is only present in 59 cities after 15 years.
The minister stressed that "cities without slums" is also intended to improve the living conditions of 50% of families living in slums, or 60,000 households. But to date, 62% of cases have been processed, for a total of 37,419 households.
