Morocco Slips in Global Rule of Law Rankings, Now 79th Out of 128 Countries

79th out of 128 countries. This is the position occupied by Morocco in the 2020 World Justice Project ranking, published last Wednesday. With this position, the kingdom has lost three good places with a drop of less than 1% in the index, according to WJP.
To compile the ranking of the 128 countries, the WJP analyzes several criteria including: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice.
Morocco is also ranked 4th out of 8 countries in the MENA region and 8th out of 30 among lower-middle income countries.
According to WJP, Venezuela, Cambodia and the Democratic Republic of Congo are at the bottom of this rule of law ranking. A position justified by the constraints on government powers. Meanwhile, Ethiopia is recording the biggest progress with 5.6%.
Cameroon shows the most negative trend in terms of the rule of law, order, security and fundamental rights. This makes the country ranked far behind Morocco by the WJP.
