Morocco Slips to 12th in Global Retail Development Index, Remains 3rd in Africa

Morocco ranked 12th out of 30 in the new "global retail development index 2019" ranking, published by the American firm ATkearney. It thus loses five places.
Morocco occupies this position, after scoring 50.2. At the continental level, the kingdom is 3rd in Africa, with an investment of about 47 billion dollars in retail trade.
China (70/100) occupies the first place ahead of India (69.2) and Malaysia (61.9). Ghana, first in Africa, ranks 4th globally with a score of 59.2 ahead of Senegal (6th).
As for the Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia ranked seventh, followed by Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. Regarding the Maghreb countries, Algeria is not on the list. Tunisia ranks 25th, followed by Egypt, 26th. Tanzania occupies the 28th place and Nigeria closes the podium (30th).
Retail trade contributes 11% to Morocco’s GDP, notes Invest.gov.ma. Similarly, it is a pillar of national employment as it provides employment for 12.8% of the active population.
