Morocco Slashes Import Duties on Classic Cars, Delighting Collectors

Vehicles known as "historic" are now subject to a 2.5% customs duty rate and will be classified under the "Art Objects and Historic Collections" category. This is good news for vintage car collectors, enthusiasts and fans.
This is the culmination of lobbying efforts by a collective of collectors grouped within the Moroccan Federation of Vintage Vehicles (FMVA). After conducting a series of negotiation rounds with officials from the Taxation Bases Division, and presenting an exhaustive file supported by a study of regulations, case law and global and European practice in particular, a technical committee of the Federation obtained a revision of the customs duty rate for collector’s vehicles.
How to benefit from the 2.5% rate? Any person wishing to import a collector’s car must ensure that the car meets the following criteria: aspects related to the authenticity of the vehicle, compliance of the model as manufactured by the manufacturer, without substantial modification of the bodywork, chassis and engine or technical and mechanical considerations... "The vehicle must be in its original state, without substantial modification of the chassis, bodywork, steering, braking, transmission or suspension system and engine," states a document consulted by L’Économiste.
Other criteria: the production date of the collector’s vehicle must be "prior to January 1, 1961" or the person must provide proof that the car belongs or has belonged to a "national or international celebrity", or proof that it is a "competition motor vehicle", or demonstrate a significant sporting record corroborated by participation in international events.
