Morocco Skyrockets to 4th Largest Global Blueberry Exporter, Challenging Industry Giants

Morocco has moved from 7th to 4th largest exporter of blueberries in the world in 2024, with 83,000 tons exported compared to 636 in 2009, an average annual increase of 43%.
According to data published by Fluctuante, the Peruvian consulting firm, Morocco is now the 4th largest exporter of blueberries in the world, on par with Spain and Chile (8% each), behind Peru (31%) and ahead of the United States (7%). The Peruvian company sees this performance of the kingdom as proof of a "dynamic and competitive industry".
The favorable climatic conditions, combined with the fertility of the soils, particularly in the Souss and Oriental regions, have allowed Morocco to achieve high annual yields. The kingdom has also benefited from its geographical proximity to Europe, incurring low export costs and providing products that retain their freshness.
Morocco should expand its blueberry production area to Dakhla, in the Sahara, or certain regions of the Atlas in order to meet the needs of international markets. This momentum should allow Morocco to consolidate its positions in Europe and conquer markets in Asia and the Middle East.
