Morocco Signs Deal to Expand Halal Exports to Russian Market

The Russian Halal market could offer new opportunities for Moroccan producers. In this sense, a new agreement has just been signed between Morocco and Russia.
To mark the entry of Moroccan halal into the Russian territory, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX), the Standardization and Certification Center under the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Development Fund.
According to the new cooperation agreement, promotional actions will be undertaken to position Moroccan halal products on the Russian market, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc.
For Hassan Sentissi Idrissi, president of ASMEX, the change in consumption habits, the requirements of healthy and hygienic consumption imposed by the health crisis, are assets for the success of this challenge. Continuing his statement, he assured that certified halal products are of better quality with safer production standards for health.
Underexploited for many years, the Moroccan halal products sector also represents a double opportunity on the market. The president of ASMEX recalls that the absence of a roadmap is hindering the promotion of several companies that want to get into halal. He has also called on the authorities and the private sector to mobilize to ensure global recognition of the Moroccan halal label.
Due to certain obstacles, including labeling, certification costs and others, the Moroccan label is struggling to make its way into the Russian market. "We must put in place a halal strategy that involves everyone and with an inclusive approach," says Abderrahim Taibi, director of the Moroccan Institute of Standardization (Imanor).
