Morocco Shifts to GMT for Ramadan, Delaying Clocks by 60 Minutes

A few days before the start of the month of Ramadan, the Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform has announced the switch to GMT time.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the time will have to be delayed by 60 minutes on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 3:00 a.m. This time change is in accordance with the provisions of Article 2 of Decree No. 2.18.855, published on 16 Safar 1440 (October 26, 2018), relating to legal time, specifies the department of Ghita Mazzour. At the end of Ramadan, Morocco will return to GMT+1 time. Moroccans will be able to advance their clocks by one hour on April 14, 2024, at 2:00 a.m.
According to astronomical calculations based on precise scientific rules, the first day of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting, will correspond this year to March 11, 2024. The end of Ramadan should occur about a month later, at the beginning of the next lunar cycle, i.e. April 10, 2024 and therefore Eid al-Fitr. The Moroccan Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs will form a special commission in the coming days for the observation of the crescent moon. After which, the department of Ahmed Toufiq will officially announce the start of the month of Ramadan 2024.
