Morocco Shifts Focus to Ecotourism Amid Tourism Industry Crisis

Pending the relaunch of tourism, in crisis since the closure of Moroccan borders, ecotourism could be a palliative in this context of forced transition, according to specialists in the sector.
During a webinar of the third Defismed university in Agadir on the theme "And if ecotourism was an opportune relay for a way out of the crisis?", tourism professionals have decided to adopt this new form of tourism. According to these experts, ecotourism, respectful of local cultures and their natural environment, could be a driver of territorial transition. In this regard, the participants are unanimous in involving civil society more.
The participants proposed to set up a new form of local governance. They also invited the actors, decision-makers, local authorities, professionals in the sector and civil society to a synergy of actions, to impose this new form of ecotourism.
For one of the speakers, this measure should not be the only activity in a territory. According to him, ecotourism should be a complementary activity in the targeted localities. The objective is to avoid a return to mass tourism. "No one can work alone. The exchange of experience avoids modeling and makes it possible to cope with constraints, because it is difficult to predict what the mutation from mass tourism to alternative tourism will generate," specified a specialist during this virtual meeting.
