Morocco Set to Officially Recognize Amazigh Language, Advancing Linguistic Diversity

The Amazigh language will soon be recognized. For the President of the House of Advisors, Hakim Benchamach, this recognition is on its way to becoming a reality thanks to the adoption of the two organic bills on the language, which augurs a new stage in the implementation of the official status of this language in Morocco.
Through the adoption of these two projects, the President of the House of Advisors pointed out that they represent a force of proposal and an institutional framework of reference. He also announces the development of policies for the protection and development of the two official languages, in order to respect the coherence of the national linguistic and cultural policy. This policy, according to him, also takes into account the mastery of the most widely spoken foreign languages, to strengthen the Moroccan identity. In addition, it aims to preserve, according to Hakim Benchamach, the diversity of its components, through access to cultural rights and the development of the cultural economy.
In this regard, a cooperation agreement was signed on May 3, 2017 with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) with the aim of taking advantage of its technical and scientific expertise to ensure the effective and efficient integration of the Amazigh language in the work of the House of Advisors, he announced.
