Morocco Set to Become Gibraltar’s Top Trading Partner, Boosting UK-Morocco Economic Ties

Rabat and London are working to strengthen their economic cooperation. Morocco will soon become Gibraltar’s first trade partner.
The Gibraltar Morocco Business Association (GMBA) is working in symbiosis with the British Chamber of Commerce for Morocco, in order to help the former increase trade with Morocco. According to Gibraltarian businessman Joshua Llhote, Morocco could succeed Spain in becoming Gibraltar’s first trade partner and Gibraltar could benefit from the trade treaty between Rabat and London signed after Brexit.

Joshua Llhote says he organized a videoconference with the British ambassador to Morocco on the issue, during which the latter told him that he would strive to increase the level of trade between the two parties. "It’s not entirely clear how Gibraltar businesses can take advantage of the trade treaty. But what he said is that he is the ambassador of Gibraltar to Morocco and that he will be happy to help in every possible way," the businessman told GBC.
For the record, trade between Morocco and the United Kingdom was around £1.8 billion in 2021.
