Morocco Maintains Trade Surplus with France, Deficit Grows with Spain and China

Morocco’s trade balance with France shows a surplus of 2.5 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2022, according to the Foreign Exchange Office’s annual report on foreign trade.
The trade surplus with France stood at 2.5 billion dirhams in 2022, down 9.2 MMDH compared to 2021, the Foreign Exchange Office said, stressing that the trade balance with France has remained in surplus since 2017. However, the office notes a trade deficit with Spain, Morocco’s main trading partner, which stood at 19.9 MMDH in 2022 compared to 7.8 MMDH a year earlier.
Similarly, the trade balance with China, which has been in deficit since 2011, reached 70.6 MMDH in 2022 compared to 58.7 MMDH in 2021 and 21.7 MMDH in 2011, the report also states, adding that the trade deficit with the United States widened to 40.4 MMDH in 2022, compared to 46.7 MMDH for Saudi Arabia.
