Morocco Sends 8 to Trial in Assu 2000 Human Trafficking Case

After several months of investigation, the Moroccan justice system has decided to send eight collaborators of the former Assu 2000 group chairman to trial. These eight people are accused of "human trafficking" and "sexual harassment".
It is the criminal court of Tangier that will be in charge of this case, which broke out following complaints filed in June 2022 in Tangier by former employees of a Moroccan subsidiary of the Assu 2000 group, now Vilavi. The alleged facts would have taken place between 2018 and April 2022 in the Tangier branches of the group formerly led by Jacques Bouthier. He himself was indicted and incarcerated in late May 2022 in Paris for human trafficking, rape and sexual assault on minors.
Six Moroccans including two women and two French are being prosecuted in Morocco for "human trafficking", "sexual harassment", "incitement to debauchery" and "failure to report attempted or consummated crimes", detailed the lawyer for the civil parties, Nezha Khoubiza. There is a ninth suspect in this case, but he died in a car accident.
As for the plaintiffs, there are six of them and they had confided during a press conference held in 2022 in Tangier, to have been victims of systematic sexual harassment, threats and intimidation, and to have worked under difficult conditions.
