Morocco Sends Hundreds of Imams Abroad for Ramadan Religious Guidance

As every year on the occasion of Ramadan, the Moroccan authorities have decided to send several hundred imams and mourchidates around the world. France will have the largest contingent.
"A group of 422 imams and mourchidates will travel to several countries in the world in order to provide religious supervision to Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) during the holy month of Ramadan," says the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
These preachers and reciters, who will be tasked with leading prayers and hosting conferences and religious vigils in mosques and places of worship, have been distributed in consultation with Moroccan embassies and consulates abroad as well as with the governing bodies of Moroccan mosques in the countries concerned, it is specified.
The majority of them, or 164 participants, will go to France where a Moroccan community estimated at over one million people is concentrated, while Spain will host 56 imams to supervise part of the 800,000 Moroccans settled there.
In addition to playing a crucial role in protecting Moroccan mosques against extremism and radicalism tendencies, this mission aims to strengthen the ranks of members of the Moroccan community abroad, it is said.
