Morocco Seizes Over 250,000 Unsafe Chinese Phone Chargers in Major Crackdown

The services of the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, in charge of quality control, in collaboration with those of the Customs Directorate, seized, on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, a shipment of 256,500 non-compliant mobile phone chargers.
The fight against non-compliant mobile phone chargers is bearing fruit. In total, a shipment of 256,500 non-compliant mobile phone chargers was seized.
The examination of samples from this shipment by an accredited laboratory has shown that these chargers, imported from China, lack compliance standards and constitute a threat to the health and safety of citizens, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy.
Faced with the many deaths related to the use of chargers, the control services have taken the necessary measures, in accordance with the procedures in force, to prohibit the import and marketing of these chargers in Morocco.
In total, 556,500 non-compliant imported chargers have been seized at the port control centers since the beginning of this year.
Control is not only carried out at the port level. It is extended to the local market, with the same objective: to ensure the compliance of the chargers marketed.
