Morocco Sees Surge in Vacation Rental Demand as Travel Restrictions Ease

After several months of confinement and restrictions related to Covid-19, hoteliers are beginning to note an enthusiasm in the demand for rental properties. The interest is expressed both by Moroccans residing in Morocco and abroad.
Residential complexes, apartments or studios in buildings, villas, riads and others, rental requests are already being made, not only by Moroccans residing abroad, but also by nationals. This enthusiasm is mainly explained by the drop in flight prices from foreign countries to Morocco. In the north of the country, weekend rentals are in high demand, with prices remaining stable. "We expect a gradual increase in demand and rental duration, as soon as school and university exams are over," reports La Vie éco, citing an agent.
In the South, especially in Agadir, Essaouira and others, the demand has started to tend towards that of two years ago. Currently, bookings are being made by foreign customers. "Bookings are being finalized, of course, by clients who are still abroad, but the bulk of the calls and emails received concern questions about availability, prices, amenities and equipment..." said Aziz Goghrod, director of the real estate agency Agadir Immo plus. The same observation is made in other cities like Marrakech, El Jadida/Oualidia, El Hoceima and others.
Regarding prices, they are maintained for the moment, but within two months, they will experience an increase. "In the outskirts of Agadir, in Taghazout for example, prices currently range from 600 to 700 DH per night for a beachfront apartment, with two bedrooms and a living room. For the same type of apartments, the price ranges from 800 to 1,000 DH in Imi Ouaddar.
In fact, several new real estate projects have emerged in this area and are being rented out. If the prices are at this level this month, they increase by 30% to 50%," Goghrod said. The same scenario will be repeated in several cities of the kingdom. But this will not hinder the smooth running of this season, in order to allow the professionals in the sector to fill the gaps accumulated so far.
