Morocco Sees 7.6% Surge in Tourism Despite Recent Tragedy

The murder of the two Scandinavians in December near Mount Toubkal did not have negative consequences on the number of foreign tourists in Morocco, which increased during the first two months of the year.
The National Tourism Observatory reports a 7.6% increase in January and February compared to the same months of 2018, including 9% for foreign tourists and 5% for Moroccans living abroad.
The main source markets are all in the green, starting with France (+12%), Italy (+11%), the United Kingdom (+10%), Spain (+9%), Germany (+6%), the Netherlands (+7%) and Belgium (+3%), according to the note on tourism statistics in Morocco.
For the month of February alone, the number of foreign tourists increased by 7.5%, according to these statistics which report a 7% increase for Moroccans residing abroad and 8% for foreign tourists.
