Morocco Sees Surge in Overseas Employment: 22,000 Workers Placed Abroad in 2019

22,000 Moroccan workers were hired in 2019 for overseas employment contracts.
Several job offers have been processed by the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC), said Mohamed Amekraz, Minister of Labor and Professional Integration in Parliament, on December 9. According to the minister, this processing has allowed the integration of nearly 15,000 workers.
According to the official, 98% of these overseas workers are seasonal and work mainly in Spain. Some also work in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, France and Germany, it is specified.
The main sectors of activity in which these Moroccan citizens work are agriculture, large-scale distribution, hotels, restaurants, commerce, industry, education and hairdressing.
In addition, nearly 6,000 Moroccans are seasonal workers and 1,529 are economic migrants out of the 7,820 Moroccans who immigrated to France in 2019, according to figures from the French Office of Immigration and Integration.
As for the issue of brain drain, the minister believes that the challenge is not specific to Morocco. "The migration of skills is one of the contemporary international issues, which also affects several European countries, including France," he argues.
