Morocco Sees 28% Surge in Diaspora Arrivals as Eid al-Adha Approaches

A 28% increase in the number of arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) has been observed since the launch of the Marhaba Operation, according to Mohamed Abdeljalil, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, in the House of Councillors, who also spoke about the rise in boat ticket prices.
For the minister, this increase is mainly related to the Eid al-Adha holiday, assuring that the transit operation, launched in early June on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, is progressing satisfactorily thanks to the involvement of all the stakeholders concerned.
The ministry has recalled that Morocco has mobilized 32 ships this year to ensure transit on 12 maritime lines connecting Moroccan ports to those of Spain, France and Italy. This aims to allow 538 weekly crossings, with a total capacity of 501,000 passengers and 136,000 vehicles per week.
Abdeljalil also addressed the issue of the significant increase in ticket prices compared to 2019, mainly due to inflation, assuring that he has encouraged both national and foreign shipping companies to reduce their fares for the transit operation. Reductions of up to 25% would have been granted, according to the minister. These reductions have not been observed either on site or by MREs interviewed by bladi.net.
