Morocco Sees Surge in Covid-19 Cases, Health Ministry Urges Caution

After a period of calm, Morocco is now facing a rise in Covid-19 infections. The Ministry of Health has expressed its concerns, calling on Moroccans to respect the recommendations.
During the presentation of the monthly report on the epidemiological situation in Morocco, Dr. Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations, indicated that the level of virus spread has started to increase again as expected, after an intermediate period of three months.
More specifically, the number of cases recorded in the first week of November has doubled, with two-thirds of the cases recorded in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Casablanca-Settat regions.
According to the figures, the weekly positivity rate increased significantly to 2.1% last week (from November 1 to 7), while it had been stable at less than 1% for more than two months. "These two indicators indicate that we are entering a very likely fifth wave of massive virus spread. We will have more visibility at the end of this week," the official added.
Regarding serious and critical cases, Dr. Mrabet indicated that they remain very limited, noting that only three cases were admitted to the resuscitation and intensive care services in the first week of November, while no cases under artificial respiration were recorded during the same period.
