Morocco Sees Surge in New Business Registrations Amid Economic Challenges

The number of companies created in Morocco in the first half of this year stood at 57,661. A revival of entrepreneurship that can be explained by massive job losses. A situation that has pushed many Moroccans to embark on it in order to escape inactivity.
These companies are divided between legal entities and individuals, says the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), in its barometer of business creations. In total, the number of companies registered in the commercial register stands at more than 1,643,000.
Regarding the legal forms of companies (legal entities), there is a predominance of single-member limited liability companies (55.7%) and limited liability companies (43.8%), notes the office, noting that only 0.3% of the companies created are under the anonymous regime.
As for the origin of the entrepreneurs, the report reveals that the files submitted by Moroccans are up 43% compared to the same period in 2020. Also, 2,608 new international applications designating Morocco were received through the Madrid system during the period January-July 2021, an increase of 8% compared to the same period in 2020.
As for invention patents, the office received nearly 1,647 patent applications by the end of July 2021, including 135 Moroccan applications, and 1,512 foreign applications. Foreign and Moroccan deposits recorded an increase of 10% and 9% respectively compared to the same period in 2020, the report notes, noting that 398 invention patents were issued during this period.
By region, Casablanca-Settat is home to 28,074 negative certificates issued, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (14,398), Marrakech-Safi (9,280) and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (9,115), according to the barometer.
