Morocco Sees Sharp Decline in Road Fatalities During COVID-19 Emergency Measures

The report on road accidents in the week of May 11 to 17, 2020, shows 3 deaths and 576 injured. This number is continuously decreasing since the establishment of the state of health emergency.
Three deaths and 576 injured, including 26 seriously, for a total of 452 cases of traffic accidents. This is the assessment of various violations of the highway code during the period from May 11 to 17, 2020, as indicated this Tuesday by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release.
The various accident cases recorded were caused by failure to respect priority, driver inattention, speeding, failure to respect the safety distance and pedestrian inattention. To this are added unauthorized change of direction, loss of control, change of direction without using the signal, failure to stop, failure to respect traffic lights, driving in the wrong direction and defective overtaking, the DGSN specified in a press release.
According to the same press release, the security services recorded 9,052 tickets and drew up 4,656 reports, while 4,396 transaction fines were collected. The DGSN informs that 858,600 dirhams were collected, 3,074 vehicles were impounded and 1,502 documents were seized and 80 vehicles were withdrawn from circulation.
