Morocco Sees 20% COVID-19 Death Rate in Emergency Rooms, Expert Cites Delays in Testing and Care

In Morocco, about 20% of Covid-19 patients admitted to the emergency department die. Doctor Tayeb Hamdi, vice-president of the National Health Federation, discusses the reasons behind this situation.
According to the specialist, the increase in the number of Covid-19 deaths is due to the multiplication of several factors. Doctor Hamdi mentions the time that elapses between the identification of infected people, testing, results, contact tracing and care. As a result, about 20% of sick people admitted to the emergency room die from the coronavirus.
The specialist explains that the causes are linked to the delay in screening and care. "But there are also cases who take the symptoms lightly until the disease worsens, those who feared the isolation measures in the hospital," he notes in an interview with the newspaper Al Massae. Other causes: the monitoring and screening of contact persons.
For Doctor Hamdi, the number of tests, which is 21,000, is largely insufficient. Result: at least 3,000 to 4,000 cases per day are not detected. In other words, the virus is already destroying the immune system of some patients before their admission to the emergency room. To reverse the trend, he calls for following the example of France where 100,000 tests are carried out every day. This number of screening allows to identify the sick from the first stage and consequently to reduce the number of deaths, he assures.
