Morocco Seeks Third Straight African Futsal Title on Home Soil

After its triumphs in 2016 in South Africa and in 2020 at home, Morocco is aiming to win the African Nations Cup (CAN) of futsal for the third consecutive time this year.
The Moroccan futsal team will participate in the final phase of the CAN of futsal which will take place from April 11 to 21 in Morocco. The Atlas Lions are aiming for a third title, after winning the 2016 and 2020 editions. Two days before the launch of this continental tournament, the Moroccan team is ready and in condition to take up this challenge, according to national coach Hicham Dguig. "The preparations for this continental deadline have gone in excellent conditions marked by enthusiasm, seriousness and ambition to have a great tournament...", he said in an interview with the MAP.
And to continue: "This preparation period was an opportunity to work calmly on all the technical and mental aspects, in a favorable framework, ensured by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation". Defending champion and favorite to win this CAN 2024, Morocco has no room for error and the Moroccan technician is aware of this. "Playing at home and in front of our audience motivates us to defend our title. We will take advantage of the fact of playing in a world-class hall and in front of our passionate audience to win the third title in a row," he assured.
Morocco shares group A with Angola, Ghana and Zambia. Formidable opponents who can create surprises. "Angola is one of the big names in Africa and played the last World Cup. The same goes for Ghana, who have already been CAN finalists, and Zambia, twice semi-finalists. So the national team must remain vigilant and play at its best to get through," comments Hicham Dguig, who believes that this CAN, given the teams present, "will be highly contested and exceptional".
In any case, the Moroccan team "is ready to take up the challenge", assured the coach who expects a difficult tournament. "We cannot consider ourselves the sole favorites. Other strong teams have made a lot of progress lately. Against Morocco, who enjoys a worldwide reputation, they will be tough and intractable, especially since they know the level of our players, through the preparation matches we are playing. For this, we are called to work even more, to change our tactical schemes and to diversify our game, to surprise our opponents".
