Morocco Seeks to Reopen Maritime Border Talks with Spain’s Canary Islands

Since the resumption of relations with Spain, Morocco has reiterated its wish to resume negotiations on the delimitation of maritime borders with the Canary Islands.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebration of Africa Day, organized in Las Palmas, the Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaïch, tried to reassure the Canary Islands on the Atlantic maritime borders that the kingdom wishes to delimit with Spain through dialogue, agreement and cooperation between the two parties, according to the Spanish media.
"The delimitation we had carried out was due to the fact that our judicial procedure had already expired," explained the diplomat, stating that there will be no problem with this file since Morocco and Spain maintain good relations.
And to specify that during the meeting on April 7 between King Mohammed VI and Pedro Sanchez, it was decided to reactivate the working group in charge of maritime spaces. The ambassador specified that "the interests of the parties will be taken into account" in the negotiation of the median line.
