Morocco Seeks Redemption Against South Africa in 2023 AFCON Qualifier
After their defeat against the United States in a friendly on Monday, the Atlas Lions should show a different face against South Africa next Thursday, in their first match counting towards the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. The team is currently fine-tuning its strategies to win this match, reinforcements are announced in defense.
This severe correction inflicted on the Moroccan team in Cincinnati has revealed weaknesses, which the national coach Vahid Halilhodzic intends to remedy, reports Le Matin, which specifies that the efforts will certainly be concentrated on the physical aspect, the real Achilles heel of the Lions at the TQL Stadium.
On the defensive level, two arrivals are announced. These are Jaouad El Yamiq and Yahya Attiyat Allah, two reinforcements who could be called upon as early as next Thursday against South Africa. A match that marks Morocco’s entry into the 2023 AFCON qualifiers and an opportunity for Achraf Hakimi’s teammates to redeem themselves with the supporters.
For his part, South Africa seems determined to surprise Morocco on its own turf. Its coach Hugo Broos has stated that he has already prepared a plan to overturn the Lions. And to specify: "... we have examined many matches of Morocco. We know their players are very good, we know their team is very good. So, we have a plan. We’ll see if that plan can succeed next Thursday..."
