Morocco Seeks International Suppliers to Secure Natural Gas Supply Amid Energy Crisis

To cope with the ongoing energy crisis, Morocco wants to secure its natural gas supply by entering the international market. Several options from the tenders are currently being studied for the first deliveries, which should take place in the coming days.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the Minister of Energy Transition, Leila Benali, discussed the development of the natural gas supply project in Morocco, specifying that the decision to enter the international market provides access to a wide range of suppliers.
According to her, consultations have been held and dozens of offers have been received. They are currently being examined by a special committee which will lead to the signing of medium and long-term contracts, for the restart of the Tahaddart and Beni Mathar power plants.
Regarding the transit of natural gas, the minister indicated that this issue has been resolved after consultations with Spain, France and Portugal to use their infrastructure to deliver to Morocco, noting that the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline suspended by Algeria will be used for this purpose.
However, Benali did not reveal the volume of natural gas that Morocco is about to receive, nor the price or even the country of import.
